NEC Announces Storage Networking Interoperability with Emulex Corporation

S-Series Line of Storage Systems Achieves Interoperability Status with
Emulex Market-Leading Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters

Santa Clara, Calif., March 5, 2007 - NEC Corporation of America, a premier provider of IT, network, storage and storage software solutions, today announced it has garnered Fibre Channel HBA interoperability status from Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) for its S-Series line of storage systems. Obtaining verification ensures interoperability in multi-vendor Emulex-based SAN connectivity environments, which is key to achieving optimum performance in enterprise storage systems. Available in North America, NEC's storage systems include the S1500, S2500 and the S2900, and when coupled with Emulex's market-leading 2Gb/s and 4Gb/s HBAs, these systems offer high performance, full data availability and scalability, as well as a comprehensive suite of business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities.

"In demonstrating interoperability with Emulex Fibre Channel HBAs, NEC continues to aggressively provide customers with storage networking products that are compatible in a variety of IT environments," said Matthew Wolken, vice president, Fault Tolerant Server and Data Storage of NEC Corporation of America. "Today's enterprises are creating and using more information than ever before and we are taking the necessary steps to provide customers with the performance, reliability and flexibility they need to maintain and grow their business."

"Emulex is working with NEC to ensure the highest levels of product compatibility and our ongoing collaboration affirms the two companies' mutual dedication to delivering robust storage networking solutions," said Mike Smith, executive vice president of worldwide marketing, Emulex Corporation. "Working together, we are giving customers a compelling offering that intelligently connects storage systems for access to data that's open, secure and adaptable."

In addition, NEC's S-Series line of storage systems also includes Emulex's award-winning InSpeed® embedded storage switching technology. NEC has incorporated Emulex's InSpeed SOC 422 to create a "switched bunch of disks (SBOD®)" application, which dramatically improves the performance, reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) of storage solutions by bringing switched connectivity to each individual disk drive within the storage array.

About the S-Series line of Storage Systems
NEC's storage systems are designed to provide exceptional performance, business continuity, high availability, reliability and scalability that meet rapidly evolving business needs. They can be deployed easily in any SAN environment and are tested for interoperability with other storage systems. In addition, the entire storage offering addresses customer requirements for ease of use and low total cost of ownership including:

The S1500 Storage Array is an entry-level model that offers excellent performance and TCO reduction to support a mixed SATA/FC configuration that meets the demands of differing quality of service requirements. The S1500 supports high-speed 4Gb/s host connections, high-performance RAID processors, and inter-controller communication at 2Gb/s.

The S2500 Storage Array is a mid-range model that supports high-speed 4Gb/s host connections, high-performance RAID processors, and inter-controller communication at 4Gb/s. Up to 7 disk enclosures can be connected to NEC's S2500 Storage Array, providing a maximum of 48TB with 120 disk drives. RAID-6 technology is included to ensure continued operation even if errors occur in two hard disks at the same time.

The S2900 Storage Array delivers high-end performance, using NEC's RAID processor, plus a new switch technology in the disk enclosure. The new RAID processor, with LSI high-speed interconnect, achieves high-speed communication between controllers at 4Gb/s.
