With the increasing complexity of corporate and development work
environments, the necessity of distributed networks and remote
systems brings into focus the need for remote system management
capabilities. These capabilities span multiple aspects of system
operations and include load balancing, applications, network
administration, database administration, and operating systems. To
demonstrate the interoperability of Microsoft System Center
Operations Manager 2007, the Interop Vendor Alliance (IVA) created
this lab highlighting the capabilities of various software tools
that can extend and expand cross platform system management
capabilities.

Lab Scenarios
Managing Heterogeneous Environments
This scenario implements the management of heterogeneous
environments including Oracle DataBase 10g, Oracle Application
Express, and an Apache Web Server running on Solaris 10. Microsoft
System Center Operations Manager 2007 (MOM) installed on Windows
Server 2003, monitors the performance and availability of the
remote applications, as well as providing detailed troubleshooting
and root cause analysis capabilities.
Heterogeneous Management Consoles
This scenario represents efforts to interoperate between Microsoft
System Center Operations Manager 2007 and other management suites.
In the lab scenario, messaging and alerts generated by Microsoft
System Center are propagated to IBM Tivoli and HP Openview; with
the state of those alerts being bi-directional. Either MOM or the
receiving system management application can alter the state of the
alert, and it will propagate to all of the systems that received
the alert.
