With the increasing complexity of corporate and development work
environments, the necessity of distributed networks and remote
systems brings into focus the need for remote system management
capabilities. These capabilities span multiple aspects of system
operations and include load balancing, applications, network
administration, database administration, and operating systems. To
demonstrate the interoperability of Microsoft System Center
Operations Manager 2007, the Interop Vendor Alliance (IVA) created
this lab highlighting the capabilities of various software tools
that can extend and expand cross platform system management
capabilities.

Lab Scenarios
Load Balancing
Server load monitoring and balancing represents a critical tool for
maintaining acceptable service levels in any multiple server
environment. Remote alerts, reports, tracking, and reserve system
controls are key features in this scenario.
Applications
Monitoring the performance and statistics of applications like SAP®
or JBoss® assists administrators in maintaining SLA compliance.
Tools for monitoring SAP ® on both Windows and Unix machines with
either SQL Server or Oracle databases were provided by IVA members
CA and Tidal Software.
Database and System Operations
Engyro Monitoring Tools were demonstrated for improving Database
and Operating System specific management tasks that need to be
performed on a Linux as well as accessing Oracle databases on
either Linux or Windows machines. This enables a single
administrator to manage the operating systems and databases of
multiple dissimilar systems, from a single location. Using the
Engyro agents, the administrator is able to quickly discover, map,
and begin monitoring live environments with a minimum of
installation and configuration time.
Network
In this scenario, EMC Smarts provided tools to monitor, isolate,
and report the health and continuity of the network infrastructure
and components including end-to end services, network devices, and
hardware from a single point of access. This expands root cause
troubleshooting capabilities and trouble ticket generation for
simplified maintenance and repair of network issues.
